Stifling the Freedom of Expression: the Fourth and Fifth Pillars of Indian Demo(n)crazy

With the proliferation of hyper-sexuality, anyone who views pornographic content know the word “VPN”, i.e., Virtual Private Network, along with the “Incognito” Tab on every browser. One can see or access anything by means of these. Even they can use expensive apps or software to view these so-called “banned/blocked” websites or web-pages. Therefore, when India “banned” the BBC Documentary “India: The Modi Question”, it was instantly available on multiple sites with multiple URLs, which can be accessed by any netizen. In the MNC-controlled world order, nothing can be “banned” or “blocked” per se. Even there are software that are still available for download even after they have been removed from the Play Store or other app stores in different “.apk” formats.

In the cyber-space, when certain selected tweets of the OBMA in the context of the DHFL scam⤡ (in which the ruling party and corporate and the underworld are engaged⤡) were banned, they could still be accessed from any other server of the world by deploying expensive special software in the browser. The thing is that money matters–you can buy freedom, revolution etc. by dint of money-signifier in the context of market fundamentalism.

When the Indian government has cut a sorry figure in maintaining, preserving and promoting the freedom of thought, opinion, speech and expression as well as the freedom of the press, at that moment, we have got Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s interview, where he directly accused the Modani (Modi+Adani) Government for controlling the media, social/print/electronic, which has metamorphosed to become the Godi “Modia” with the consent manufacturing process of the ruling party.

All the allegations made by Mr. Dorsey are naturally negated by the Indian Deputy IT Minister, Mr. Rajeev Chandrashekhar, as well as by the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Mr. Anurag Thakur, as “outright lies” and false anti-India propaganda with “white-lies”!

Who is actually lying in this scenario? Dorsey, or the crony oligarchs of India?

This kind of denial on the part of the Indian ruling party can be further falsified (negation of negation) by showing only one instance:

When the Indian government arrested a 22 year old Indian climate activist after she circulated a “toolkit” provided by another climate activist, Ms. Greta Thunberg, on the issue of the farmers’ protest against corporate subsumption.

India stands 4th in the world in ordering Twitter to “ban” or “block” so-called “anti-BJP” (which it dubs as “anti-India”) tweets or twitter profiles. It is no wonder that India holds the 161 rank out of 180 countries in the World Press Freedom Index. Manipulated, controlled, appropriated media is the go of the day under the claustrophobic plutocracy!

In the end, returning to the DHFL scam issue, where several tweets done by some of the DHFL victims were NATIONALLY taken off or retracted when it disturbed the establishment’s status quo sentiments in favour of the selected business tycoons.

However, we are posting those “banned” tweets on the walls of Mr. Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP IT cell, i.e., Goebbels of India, but he cannot view it from the Indian browser, he must have to take help of a software, “Tech Fog” (the BJP IT cell uses it to manipulate news)!

We are sincerely thankful to Twitter, Linkedin and Facebook management as they have refused the crony governmental order of global “Geo-blocking” at the time of Globalized (or rather glocalized [global+Localized] market economy,

  8. What does World Press Freedom Day mean when a young journalist, writing out of a corner store in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao, is murdered in broad daylight for refusing to stay quiet and pursuing his ideals? On 19 June 2020, Shubham Mani Tripathi was murdered for speaking up about allegedly fraudulent deals for government plots handled by a local “don”. He was repeatedly threatened and paid the ultimate price for refusing to bend. Independent journalist Saurabh Yadav remembers the chilling case and press freedom in the current scenario.

De-dollarisation: The United States habitually sanctions countries it “dislikes”, resulting in the de-dollarising trend. Governments are working on bilateral ties without involving the dollar. Noted economist Prabhat Patnaik writes about what the United States fears most from this shift–it strikes at the root of metropolitan hegemony.

Reel vs Real Life: Coolie, starring Amitabh Bachchan, was released nearly 40 years ago, coinciding with the Bombay Textile Mill strikes that began in 1982. While the reel hero was victorious over his capitalist boss, the real-life workers lost their fight. Senior journalist Aunindyo Chakravarty describes how workers gradually disappeared from our consciousness.

Rabi Farmers Risk Lives: Farmers in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, draw electricity from power lines to irrigate their fields as they lack access to regular electricity. The dangerous live wires become a much greater risk in irrigated fields, especially during rainfall and storms. Bhopal-based 101Reporters journalist Pooja Yadav speaks to farmers in the region.

Artful Misrepresentation: ‘The Kerala Story’ is set to release on 5 May, and human rights activist Ram Puniyani believes it represents powerful forces who want to use art to spread hateful propaganda. He draws comparisons with “The Kashmir Files”, another film that blended fiction with lies to divide people.

Kashmir Raids: The National Investigation Agency raided 12 locations across Kashmir and Poonch in a case from last year related to an alleged conspiracy to attack the union territory. Valley-based NewsClick reporter Anees Zargar speaks to an unnamed NIA spokesperson about the situation.

And Last but not Least: Former diplomat and ex-ambassador to Uzbekistan and Turkey MK Bhadrakumar writes about Kyiv’s efforts to “buy time” beginning to worry the United States. Top NATO commander and American general Christopher Cavoli recently raised concerns about Russia’s numbers and the sustainability of the Russia-Ukraine war.

    Until tomorrow,
